The quaint hamlet of Kambia lies on a sleepy hillside only 3 kms from the seaside village of Almyrida where the white sand beaches shelve gently into the crystal clear aquamarine water and are encircled by a number of excellent beachfront tavernas and cafes. Villa Damythsi sits in 2000m of private grounds on the tranquil outskirts of Kambia with magnificent views down the valley of silver and green olive trees, across Souda Bay to the Akrotiri Peninsula and Aptera Castle, and up to the majestic White Mountains. If you would love to spend some time completely relaxing in a modern villa with dramatic views and cheery, colourful furnishings, then look no further than Villa Damythsi. Lovingly built and furnished by a diligent couple from the north of England as a future home in which to retire, the villa was named after their 4 children (the first 2 initials of each name). With this in mind, Villa Damythsi has been thoughtfully designed to provide modern comforts with special emphasis on the outside area and is therefore perfectly suited to summer living. The villa, and the surrounding terraces and walls have been beautifully crafted from creamy local stone with carefully appointed areas for shaded dining, barbequing delicious fresh local produce, and sunbathing. The dining area, which will undoubtedly be the focus of many a congenial family meal, leads through a stone archway to the raised pool terrace and the family friendly private pool which has a seat built into the shallow end. This is the ideal place to cool off during the long hot summer days, or at night when romantic couples can sit in the warm water and sip a cocktail under the breathtakingly clear star-filled sky whilst watching the lights twinkling from the nearby coastal villages and distant mountain dwellings. The half acre property is completely enclosed and has been landscaped in typically Mediterranean style whilst keeping in perfect sync with the surrounding landscape of undulating olive clad hillsides interspersed with rocks, almond trees and an infusion of colourful wild flowers in the Spring time. Much of the garden has been left natural whilst the remainder is planted with “hottentot fig”, Washingtonian palms, hibiscus, leilandai, geraniums, cacti, and young orange trees and lemon trees. An array of comfortable garden furniture on the outdoor terraces and balconies (with a choice of sun or shade) invites you to do nothing more taxing than lie back and look at the spectacular mountainous backdrop which takes on gorgeous hues of crimson, rose and gold at sunset. Villa Damythsi has spacious rooms which have all been furnished and fitted to meet the expectations of high modern standards. The light and airy interiors blend seamlessly with the balconies and terraces in order to bring your living area into the outdoors, so that you can fully appreciate the spectacular views, which stretch for as far as the eye can see. A fresh modern theme with colourful bedspreads, matching flowing curtains and cool tiled floors all enhance the restful ambience. The thoughtful owners have created a very attractive and comfortable home which is air-conditioned throughout. For the cooler nights at the start and end of the season the A/C units double up as heaters. Other modern amenities that will help you have a relaxing holiday include: fully tiled bathrooms, satellite TV, a DVD player, a stereo system with an MP3/I-Pod player, internet access (for a small fee), a safe, white aluminium doors, windows and shutters, mosquito screens, a built-in fan assist oven with cooker hood and ceramic hob, a fridge/freezer, a microwave oven, a washing machine, a kettle, a coffee maker, a toaster, and a private parking area. This picturesque and peaceful countryside location has easy access by car to the amenities and beaches at Almyrida , Kalives , and Kera , and the higgeldy-piggledy villages of Kokkino Horio and Plaka, plus numerous walking trails. Even though you may never want to leave the villa, Kambia is an ideal starting point for exploring the many sites that West Crete has to offer as it is only 10 minutes drive to the National Highway. LocationThe organic taverna at the famous glass blowing workshop in Kokkino Horio is only 1.3km from Villa Damythsi and has sea and mountain views. During the day you can watch recycled glass being blown in the traditional manner into amazingly beautiful products including lampshades, ornaments, decanters, plates and bowls. 100m further into Kokkino Horio is the family-run taverna on the main square that is shaded by weeping willow trees, has delicious food, and very friendly owners (Zacharias and his son Yiannis) who know everything about the village and the surrounding area. During the summer months there are occasional live Cretan music nights at the taverna, which are a lot of fun. Kokkino Horio (“red village” in Greek) was the main village set for the film “Zorba the Greek”. There are little whitewashed houses and narrow streets that wind around the village centre. Plaka Square is just 1.8km away and has 3 excellent tavernas, a souvlai cafe, a wonderful Italian restaurant, 3 well stocked mini markets, a sweet shop, and 5 cafes. 10 minutes away by car is the lovely village of Almyrida which is built around a crescent shaped sandy beach. The beach is very shallow and safe, which is good news if you have children or are not a strong swimmer. Lining the beach are many excellent tavernas, cafes and shops. Also in Almyrida there is a scuba diving centre, a water sports centre which rents out kayaks, windsurfers and catamarans and Villas Crete Holidays for tourist information and guided tours. For those of you looking for even more activity, the historic town of Chania is only 45 minutes away by car. Villa amenities
