Have you ever gazed up at the sky at night and wondered which stars or planets you were looking at? Now you have the unique opportunity to have all of your questions answered by the experts from The Crete Planetarium, and to learn much more besides, all in the privacy of the pool terrace and garden at your villa.
Villas Crete Holidays have teamed up with The Crete Planetarium to bring a new activity to guests who are staying in our villas. Starry Nights is a complete presentation that combines Astronomy with some Greek Mythology.
Away from the city lights two to three thousand stars are visible under dark, clear skies with our naked eyes, and telescopes reveal tens of thousands more. These stars form 88 constellations and the majority in the Northern Hemisphere were named by the ancient Greeks who invented stories to go along with them, which became the basis for many Greek Mythology legends.
You don’t need to know anything about Astronomy because this activity has been cleverly designed so that complete beginners or even experts in astrophysics can learn something new about the vastness of the universe. The staff from The Planetarium of Crete have many years of experience observing the incredible night sky and they will bring some of the largest telescopes in Greece to your villa including a 16-inch dobsonian telescope.
Depending upon the time of year different planets are visible including Jupiter with it’s color belts and large moons, Saturn with it’s rings, the red planet, Mars, and ever bright Venus. In addition to the stars and planets in our solar system, star clusters, nebulae, and even other very distant galaxies are visible!
Each participant with be given a star map of the current month and a small red flashlight so that they can identify the constellations using Uranography and the help of the planterium staff. You can even learn how to find your way home at night with the just the north star for guidance.
We can promise that you will be taken to “another world” and spend an incredible night that you will never forget.
Sightseeing Flights
For a very special outing take an amazing flight in a Cessna C177 plane with 4 seats (the pilot and up to 3 passengers)
Feel like a V.I.P. by taking a thrilling flight on an Airbus Eurocopter AS350 which seats up to 5 persons plus 1 very experienced pilot.
GO KART
Mega Drive is the largest go kart track in Crete and is located on the outskirts of Chania. Open from 11.00am to 11.00pm there is also a playground, table football, air hockey, billiards, satellite TV, a café and a bar. A mini-bus can be arranged to transfer you to and from the Mega Drive Go-Cart.
The Chania area also has a number of cinemas, children’s playgrounds, and The Mega Bowling Place and Cinema which has a cinema, bowling, pool tables, video games, as well as a host of other activities and snack bars.
Cycling / Bike Rental
Getting out and about on a bike takes you at a speed where you can take in the amazing sights, sounds, and fragrances of Crete as well are being able to interact with the friendly locals.
The incredibly different terrains on the island lends itself perfectly to a wide range of different cycling tours that cater to all levels of fitness. From the mountainous areas and rocky paths, to the large plateaus and flatter coastal regions there is something for all the members of the family to enjoy.
Different guided tours are available for either seriously fit cycling enthusiasts, or for beginners/families with children/weekend cyclists etc. who require a less demanding route (often downhill from the mountains to the coast, or along gently undulating off road tracks), and a leisurely pace. Guides, transfers, support vehicles with bike trailers, bike, and helmet are supplied on cycling excursions.
Modern, well maintained mountain bikes, trekking bikes, city bikes and children's bikes can be rented and delivered to your villa by a choice of bike companies if required. Ideal for pottering around the village or exploring the smaller trails through the orange and olive groves in the flatter area behind Kalives that includes the villages of Stylos, Nea Horio, and Armeni.
